Some individuals suffer extreme anxiety which leads them to hallucinate and have panic attacks as well, it is usually at this point that people start seeking medical help. Doctors can prescribe many anti-anxiety drugs which work by manipulating the brain pathways which are responsible for making one feel anxious.

These anti-anxiety drugs can be very useful. However, there are natural ways of reducing anxiety as well. Out of the natural remedies, Ashwagandha is the most popular and its positive effects are actually backed up with research.

Ashwagandha is a natural herb which has been used for centuries to cure a whole host of problems. Boosting energy and improving cognitive performance are some of the most common problems for which ashwagandha is utilized.

Daily consumption of ashwagandha

The Research and Development Center in India conducted a study on the effect that ashwagandha has on stress and anxiety levels.

In the study, 64 subjects who had a history of suffering from stress and anxiety were assigned to one of two groups, the Ashwagandha group or the control group. The serum cortisol levels were taken of all the subjects. The subjects in the Ashwagandha group were instructed to consume a 300mg capsule of Ashwagandha twice a day for the next 60 days.

The results were very promising. When blood serum levels were taken, the Ashwagandha group had significantly lower cortisol levels than the control group. The ashwagandha group also performed significantly better than the control group in all the other measures of stress and anxiety that were executed.

The fact that patients who consumed ashwagandha had lower stress hormones after consumption is what decreased their anxiety as well. High cortisol levels are directly related to anxiety so a decrease in these levels obviously means a decrease in anxiety as well.

Anxiety can be hard to live with. Acknowledging one’s anxiety and taking the correct measures to remove it from ones life is very important. Ashwagandha can play a significant role in the removal of anxiety from one’s life.
